Meagher now holds that record alone and he is the only remaining original cast member in the show. In early August, a spokesperson for the show confirmed filming had resumed. Since 2000, Home and Away has ceased broadcast mid-season for two weeks during the Olympic Games and the episode to screen prior to this is referred to as an 'Olympic cliffhanger'. An Olympic cliffhanger episode would usually involve increased drama, with the peak of a storyline, similar to a season finale episode, and the outcome of the cliffhanger to conclude after the Olympics. In addition to this, Home and Away took a transmission break on 3 April 2018 in order to broadcast the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and returned on 16 April 2018. There have been nine different versions of the theme song used throughout the years. The lyrics remained the same since the show's inception, but a number of verses were gradually cut back over the years due to time restrictions.
Stacey and Andrew later become engaged but the relationship is tested when Andrew offers his friend, Mick drug addict a place to stay as part of his Youth Counselling business. Stacey's ring goes missing and Mick is blamed but Andrew later reveals he took it to get it tighten as Stacey complained about it being loose. S official Australian Facebook page reached one million likes, becoming the first Australian television show to reach this milestone. The Facebook page was established in November 2009 and is followed by fans mostly in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom. In 2013, Home and Away celebrated its 25th anniversary and former cast member Kate Ritchie returned for a special storyline to coincide with the celebrations. Christopher becomes friends with Duncan Stewart and they both get into scrapes together, including a situation where both explore a derelict building which is unstable following a recent earthquake. The house collapses and they are trapped but are eventually found. A year after Michael's death, Pippa meets Ian Routledge and he asks her to move away with him but she turns him down at first. Several months later Ian returns and Pippa and Christopher move away to the Carrington Ranges with him. In 2003, Christopher and Pippa return for Sally's wedding to local doctor Flynn Saunders . Pippa briefly mentions to Irene Roberts that Christopher is gay.
Other fictional towns mentioned and sometimes seen in Home and Away are Mangrove River and Yabbie Creek. While organising school events, Matt decided to take a break, Matt and Sasha kissed and they slept together, and Matt loses his virginity to her. The next day, Spencer walked in on them, as Matt leaves the next day, At school, Matt and Spencer argues and Matt accidentally mentions to everyone that he and Sasha slept together, which hurts her.
The 2020 season return saw a series low for a premiere with only 548,000 tuning in. The 2021 season has seen an increase in ratings with most episodes attracting over 600,000. The 2021 Olympic return episode, which aired on 9 August 2021, attracted the highest rating in over two years, with 710,000 viewers, with an even higher increase of 733,000 viewers tuning in on 10 August. On 31 March 2022, two episodes achieved new series lows of 382,000 and 364,000 viewers respectively.
When the character returned in 1990, Terence Donovan began playing the role and departed on 1 March 1990. Alan arrives in Summer Bay much to the disapproval of his father Donald, as their relationship is strained. He makes a move on Bobby, much to her displeasure until she remembers who he is. Alan enrols in year twelve at Summer Bay High where his parents are teaching and Donald threatens to expel him should he misbehave. It soon emerges Alan's is suffering from a inoperable brain aneurysm that could cause a haemorrhage at any time. In revenge, Alan begins acting up even more by wearing dusty school jumpers and even the dress worn by the female pupils.
